Frequently asked questions

What PTT do I need for Motorola APX radios?
Classic APX / XPR GCAI radios use Constant Able M9. Newer APX N-Series and MOTOTRBO R7 use Constant Able M16 mini-GCAI — a different connector. Do not assume one Motorola PTT fits both families.
Can one Constant Able work with any radio?
No. Each Constant Able is built for one radio accessory connector. The headset jack is universal U-174/U with auto dynamic/electret sensing. Swap headsets freely; change radio plugs and you need a different CA model.
Dynamic vs electret — do I need an amplified PTT?
Dynamic mics need amplification on legacy U-94. Constant Able auto-senses dynamic and electret so you do not pick amp vs non-amp for most setups.
NATO vs Peltor wiring on U-174?
Legacy U-94 expects US NATO wiring. European “Peltor wired” headsets often fail on plain U-94. Constant Able handles both wiring standards.
What about PRC-152 / PRC-148?
Use Constant Able NATO (U-329/U 6-pin). Enable accessory voltage (3.3V+) and set mic to Lapel Mic. Many manpack PRC-117-class radios lack accessory voltage — confirm before ordering or contact DISCO32.
Dual radios — one PTT or two?
Dual mono (left/right monaural downleads) often needs two Constant Able units. Stereo / 5-pole / MPU5 / PRC-163 dual paths are not a single mono CA. Call or email sales if you run two radios or a stereo dual-platform headset — we’ll map the right path.
