Frequently Asked Questions
Why stay inside the Ops-Core ecosystem instead of mixing brands?
Integrated systems fail less. When helmet, headset, mounts, and accessories are all engineered together, you eliminate adapter failures and compatibility issues. The AMP connects directly to FAST helmet rails, the STEP-IN visor indexes perfectly, and the SOTR respirator seals without modification. You also get lower total cost of ownership—fewer replacement parts, less troubleshooting, and gear that lasts longer because it's not being stressed by mismatched tolerances. Gentex/Ops-Core's military aviation heritage means these components are tested to standards most tactical brands never touch.
What radios are compatible with Ops-Core AMP headsets?
The Ops-Core AMP Connectorized headset is compatible with virtually any radio when paired with the correct PTT and downlead. TCIS supports Motorola APX/XTS/N-Series, L3 Harris XL/XG/Falcon series, military AN/PRC-152/148/163, Kenwood TK series, Hytera PD/HP series, and more. The DISCO32 Constant Able PTT line features auto-sensing impedance matching for universal compatibility.
What's the difference between single and dual channel comms?
Single channel provides mono-binaural audio—one audio source distributed to both ears. Dual channel provides separate mono inputs: Channel 1 to the left ear, Channel 2 to the right ear. This allows operators to monitor two independent radio nets simultaneously, essential for multi-agency operations or command/tactical net separation.
Do you offer agency or department pricing?
Yes. DISCO32 provides competitive pricing for law enforcement agencies, military units, and government departments. Use the TCIS configurator to build your loadout, then click "Request Quote" for volume and contract pricing. We support GSA schedules and departmental procurement processes.
Can I use the AMP headset with a gas mask?
Yes. The DISCO32 Gas Mask Adapter (DGMA) connects your PTT to the mask's Electronic Communications Port (ECP), bypassing the AMP boom microphone and using the mask's internal microphone. Compatible with C50, M50, FM53, FM54, and MBU-12/P oxygen masks. The DGMA is a plug-and-play 16-inch cable with U-173/U connection.
What PTT do I need for my Motorola APX radio?
For Motorola APX 6000/7000/8000 radios, you need the DISCO32 Constant Able M9 PTT with the multi-pin APX connector. For APX N-Series (N30/N50/N70), use the Constant Able M16 PTT. TCIS automatically matches the correct PTT to your specific radio model.
Do I need the Rail Mount Kit, or can I wear the AMP under my helmet?
The AMP headset can be worn either way. The Rail Mount Kit (Vent Mode) attaches the headset to your helmet's ARC rails, providing improved impulse noise protection, better weight distribution for all-day comfort, and the ability to stow the earcups up and out of the way. The Vent Mode feature also allows airflow while maintaining communications via NFMI. If you prefer a lower profile or plan to use the headset without a helmet frequently, you can wear it under the helmet using the standard headband.
What is RAILINK and do I need it for my NVGs?
RAILINK is Ops-Core's power and data rail system integrated into FAST helmets. It provides centralized power for NVGs and accessories, eliminating external battery cables (snag hazards) and enabling data transmission for advanced vision systems.
Standard NVGs (PVS-14, PVS-31A, BNVD-1531) work fine with regular helmets—RAILINK is optional but convenient.
Heavy/Panoramic NVGs (GPNVG-18, F-Pano, F-Bino, ENVG-B) benefit significantly from RAILINK due to their 27oz+ weight and external battery requirements. Fusion devices that require both power and data connections may require RAILINK for full functionality.
What is NFMI and do I need NFMI earplugs?
NFMI (Near Field Magnetic Induction) earplugs provide wireless audio transmission from the AMP headset to in-ear speakers, increasing hearing protection from NRR 22dB to NRR 34dB combined. They're battery-free and recommended for high-noise environments like breaching, aviation, or heavy weapons operations.
